Welcome to Padmodaya Secondary School, Kathmandu
The secondary school Padmodaya was founded in Nepal in 1946, before the dawn of democracy. The term "Padmodaya" refers to the name of Padma Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana, then Premier of Nepal. Kamala, Padma Shamsher's wife, patronized the school, and since that time, the school building has been officially named Kamala Bhavana. To remember Kamala, an inter-school Kamala essay writing competition is organized on an ongoing basis from the school's foundation.
The main school building was built in 1953, which looks like Rana-designed buildings like Singha Durbar, Babar Mahal, and Keshar Mahal. It was initially founded to educate only boys, but interestingly, after 1988, the school began to enroll girls.
This school's students started appearing in the SLC exam after 1947, and the number of first batch SLC graduate students was ten, while former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa was this school's second batch SLC graduate.
Padmodaya Secondary School is centrally located on the way to Bhrikuti Mandap, Ramshah Road, Putalisadak, Kathmandu, Nepal, close to the Singha Durbar. It is affiliated with the National Review Board (NEB) for two Management and Science programs in Ten Plus.
