Rajbiraj Airport is a domestic airport located in Bisangapur Municipality near Rajbiraj in Saptari District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. It is one of the older aviation facilities in the country, originally established in 1959 to connect southeastern Nepal with other parts of the nation. After decades of irregular service and long periods of closure due to infrastructure limitations, the airport was upgraded and resumed regular operations in 2018 with a paved 1,500-metre asphalt runway that can support small to medium-sized aircraft.

Rajbiraj Airport’s modernisation has enabled scheduled flights, including daily services between Kathmandu and Rajbiraj offered by domestic carriers like Buddha Air, significantly reducing travel time compared with road transportation. The airport serves not only local residents of Saptari but also visitors interested in regional attractions such as the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve and cultural sites. With its IATA code “RJB” and continued operational status under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Rajbiraj Airport plays an important role in improving connectivity and boosting tourism and economic activity in eastern Nepal.
