In 2008 AD (2065 BS), the Mahendra Institute of Medical Science was established as a private medical institute located in Janakinagar, Janakpurdham, Nepal's Dhanusa district. It is affiliated with and approved by the Nepal Professional Health Council (HPHC) Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).It delivers three years of full-time health training services for a Medical Laboratory Technology Credential (CMLT) for 30 seats per year. On the grounds of merit and socially disadvantaged candidates, this institute also offers several scholarship programs.
