Lumbini Eye Institute was established in 1983, beginning with just two rooms and four employees, including Dr. S.P. Dhital as only a physician inside the premises of Government Hospital (Bhim Hospital), today Lumbini Eye Institute (LEI) has grown from a small eye clinic to one of the leading and most effective eye care centers among many eye clinics operated in Nepal under Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh. It is also known in South Asia as one of the best examples of self-sustainable eye care facilities. The Institute has a sufficient team of experienced ophthalmologists and a good back-up of paramedical services. This hospital treats more than 550 people with OPD and performs 75 to 170 various types of eye surgery everyday. LEI develops institutional relations in countries such as Tibet, Cambodia, etc. in order to exchange knowledge & insights and for the transfer of skills.
