Aarohan Gurukul is a pioneering theatre institution in Nepal that has played a crucial role in shaping the country's modern performing arts landscape through its powerful blend of artistic expression, education, and social engagement. Established as part of the Aarohan Theatre Group founded in 1982 by prominent theatre practitioner Sunil Pokharel, Aarohan Gurukul emerged in the early 2000s as Nepal's first dedicated theatre school, providing structured training in acting, direction, and stagecraft while nurturing a new generation of performers. Based primarily in Kathmandu, with another major center in Biratnagar, the institution is widely recognized for its innovative approach to "Kachahari Theatre," a participatory form of drama that encourages audience interaction to address real-life social, political, and cultural issues such as gender equality, human rights, and community development. Over the years, Aarohan Gurukul has produced numerous stage plays, television programs, and radio dramas, gaining both national and international recognition while performing in countries across Asia, Europe, and North America.
